WWIN to open hostel for domestic violence perpetrators

Wearside Women in Need are set to open a pioneering hostel for perpetrators of domestic violence. The first of its kind in the UK, the scheme has generated national interest.

Clare Phillipson, Director of Wearside Women in Need, said:

"This will benefit both perpetrators and their victims. It will prevent many women from being forced to leave their homes because of domestic violence."

"We want to offer abusive men the opportunity to change. The vast majority of men who are violent and abusive towards their partners never appear before the courts. This new project will allow abusive men to address their behaviour."

"We have been trying to secure funding for the hostel for the last five years. We are delighted that the Treasury has agreed to fund this innovative scheme. We're also grateful for the support from Back on the Map in Hendon and the East End where we will be employing a men's outreach worker."
